Measurements: 6' 7” deep by 59” wide (200 x 151 cm).
This Bösendorfer Grand Piano 200 is entirely made by hand, and was built in 1963 over a process completed within three to four years at the Bösendorfer facility in Austria.
Being that Bösendorfer is considered one of the finest brands of pianos ever produced, their product line was limited to five or six hundred piano boxes each year. The piano has original ivory keys, an open pinblock covered with a solid piece of mahogany, which is rare. Furthermore, the piano has a removable and adjustable capo d'astro, allowing for the further termination of sustainment in the upper register of the piano.
The soundboard, made entirely of spruce is manually integrated with a reinforced rim, not only for more stability, but so that the rim actually augments and further projects the reverberation of the soundboard itself. This creates greater overall amplification.
In terms of the action of the piano, Bösendorfer doesn't build their own action, and so this particular piano is outfitted with the best authentic action money can buy; a Renner action. From the pin block to the hitch pins, the piano features single-stringing, with each aliquot string individually wrapped by hand.
The symmetry of this work reflects the highest level of artisan craftsmanship, as well as an attention to detail functionally equipping each individual string to achieve a higher level of tonal accuracy. Not only does this greatly improve vocal clarity, but also allows the piano to hold a tune longer than may be the case with the standard double-stringing technique all too common in assembly-line pianos.
Given the year of the piano, and the incredible state of its condition, this is truly a one-of-a-kind instrument. This consideration makes our Bösendorfer Model 200 more than just a wonderful collector's piece, and a rare gem among other classically built, hand-made pianos, but also a highly functioning, top quality instrument in its own right.
The original price tag on a new Model 200 is approximately $100,000. You can read more about it here.
